Preparation
Surfaces must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt before application (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on a frost-free surface. For guaranteed performance, Osmo recommends that all traces of previous finishes are removed to expose clean, bare wood.
- Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths and then fully cleaned
- Pre-existing paints, varnishes, waxes, and sealers must be completely removed by sanding or with a suitable stripper or remover
- Use Osmo Interior Wood Filler to repair small dents and holes
- To protect against blue stain in moist surroundings, pre-treat with biocide-free wax impregnation Osmo Wood Protector
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Osmo Polyx-Oil Tints are ready-to-use from the tin, do not thin. Stir thoroughly prior to and periodically during application to ensure a consistent finish. Osmo oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush. For the best results, apply thinly and remove any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Apply first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Brush
- Remove any surplus oil from the wood and leave it to dry. Usually, touch dry in 8 to 10 hours
- Lightly de-nib the surface
- Remove all traces of denibbing/sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner
- Apply a second thin coat and allow to fully dry
- Allow 24 hours before exposing the floor to normal use
Aftercare
For daily maintenance, a duster, mop, or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. For commercial premises, an electric floor polisher can be used.
