Laminate Underlay

If you are installing laminate flooring you will need the correct type of underlay to go underneath.  An underlay acts as a cushion between your existing floor and your laminate floor.  It adds protection and support, and depending upon the type you choose, it may also act as a thermal barrier or help with soundproofing.

Why should I choose a laminate underlay?

Within our range of underlays for laminate flooring, there are a few different choices.  The ultimate decision will depend upon your individual requirements, such as: whether you have underfloor heating, if you would like thermal resistance or maybe you soundproofing.  One important thing to remember is that the colour or thickness of the underlay does not make any difference to sound or heat transfer.  If you would like thermal insulation from your underlay then look out for the tog rating, and if you want a sound proofing underlay you should check the decibel rating. Have a look at our Guide to Underlay for more detailed information.
