13mm Engineered Wood Flooring

13mm engineered hardwood flooring is a popular choice of flooring.  It can be found with different board lengths, in different species of wood and with a choice of surface finishes.  The total thickness of the plank of flooring is 13mm.  The top layer of hardwood is the only part that you will see once it has been installed, and it is typically 4mm thick with this particular type of floor.

The flooring consists of the top layer of hardwood and then multiple base layers underneath which are made from other types of wood.  The layers are all joined together using adhesive and high pressure, and they are all running in opposing ways to each other.  The reason for this is to create a stronger and more stable plank of flooring that can be used in more versatile ways.

With 13mm engineered wood flooring you often have the choice of either the traditional tongue and groove fitting or the more modern click fitting system.

Why should I choose 13mm thick engineered flooring?

13mm engineered hardwood flooring is a popular choice for people with underfloor heating.  The planks of flooring are thin enough to allow the correct transfer of heat through to the surface of the flooring.

This particular type of flooring is great choice as it combines the beauty and elegance of a natural floor covering with the endless advantages of engineered wooden flooring.  Engineered hardwood is strong, durable and can be fitted in much more versatile ways than solid wood flooring.  Read our Guide to Engineered Hardwood Flooring to find out more.

Within this range you have a choice of different surface textures and finishes, a choice of fitting systems and an option of different board lengths.  If you choose the click fitting system it means that installation is quick and easy and does not require the need for glue, screws or nails.  The click fitting system is only available on flooring with a thickness of 15mm or less.  This is because thicker and heavier boards require adhesive to fix the boards together.

How do I maintain 13mm engineered hardwood flooring?

Caring for and maintaining the beauty of any hardwood floor is easy if you keep a regular cleaning routine and follow some simple steps to prevent unwanted damage.  Firstly, sweep on a daily basis to prevent the build-up of dirt and dust, then clean on a weekly basis (or more often if needed) with a PH neutral wooden floor cleaning solution to remove more stubborn stains and revive the floors natural beauty.  Secondly, prevent unwanted dents and scratches by adding felt protector pads to the bottom of furniture, removing outdoor footwear and remembering to wipe away any liquid spills or accidents immediately.
