About Ambience Products
Q. Can I use underfloor heating with my hardwood floor?
A. Yes, engineered hardwood flooring can be used with underfloor heating.
Q. Can I install hardwood flooring in my conservatory?
A. Yes, you can install hardwood flooring in your conservatory but you must use engineered hardwood as this is designed to withstand the fluctuations in temperature that are unavoidable in a conservatory or rooms with large amounts of windows.
Q. Can I install hardwood flooring in my kitchen?
A. Yes, but you must use engineered hardwood flooring as it is far more durable than solid wood flooring. Despite its durability and stability you will still need to wipe away any water spills or an accident immediately so that liquid does not soak into your floor and cause damage.
Q. Can I install hardwood flooring in my bathroom?
A. No, we do not recommended that you install any type of hardwood flooring into a bathroom or room with excessive water as it is likely to get damaged.
Q. Can I install hardwood flooring on my staircase?
A. Yes, hardwood flooring can be installed onto a staircase. In order to do this you will need to also use a wood flooring profile called stair nosing, which is used to cover the edge of each step. For more information see our blog article ‘Can I put hardwood flooring on my staircase?’
Q. How do I care for my hardwood floor?
A. It is easy to care for your hardwood floor by regularly sweeping with a soft broom to remove daily dirt and dust, then cleaning with a wooden floor cleaning spray on a weekly, or more regular basis. Damage and scratches can also easily be prevented by asking people to remove their footwear before walking on your floor and you can apply felt protector pads to the bottom of furniture. For more advice and tips on how to care for your hardwood floor see our Wood Floor Maintenance and Care.
Q. What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood flooring?
A. The main difference between solid wood flooring and engineered wood flooring is the way in which it has been constructed, and this then determines how durable and stable the flooring is and governs how and where it can be used. Solid wood flooring is a plank of flooring that has been made from a solid piece of wood, whereas engineered wood flooring has a top layer of real wood with a base construction of plywood which gives it additional strength and stability. Solid wood flooring is less stable so needs fixing into position, but engineered wood is much more versatile and can be floated over an underlay or fixed into position, used with underfloor heating and used in areas with changing temperature and humidity. Once the floors are installed you would not be able to tell the difference between engineered or solid wood as they both look exactly the same from the surface. For more information, see ‘What is the difference between solid wood and engineered wood flooring?’
Q. Do you have a showroom?
A. Yes we have a showroom in Leicester with over 200 floors on display and technically trained staff that are happy to offer advice and guidance. See our Showroom page for the address and opening hours.
Q. What is the best way to install my hardwood floor?
A. It really depends on which type of flooring you have chosen (engineered or solid), and what type of subfloor you have in your property. For detailed advice, see our Installation and Fitting Guide.
