What is Hand Scraped Wood Flooring?

Hand scraped flooring is a type of hardwood flooring that has extra definition and texture added the surface.  The planks of flooring have been made the same way as any other hardwood flooring. Then the surface has been scraped, by hand before the planks are finished with oil or lacquer.

If you choose this type of flooring, you will notice that no two planks are the same.  This is because each plank has been individually hand scraped and finished.  The end result is a rustic looking, textured hardwood floor with plenty of character and charm

Why should I choose hand scraped wood flooring?

First of all. if you are looking for flooring that is a bit different that adds character, warmth and a rustic charm, then hand scraped is an excellent choice. You can find this particular type of flooring in different board widths, thickness and lengths, so be sure to choose something that will complement your space.  Furthermore, hand scraped flooring is usually made form Oak. This is the most common species of wood used for flooring.  However, many have had colour stains added so that you will find a wide range of colours to choose from.   Hand scraped wood flooring is the perfect match for any home, especially if you are looking for a floor with a rustic appeal and added character.

Where can I use hand scraped wood flooring?

You can use hand scraped hardwood in exactly the same way as normal wooden flooring.  It is only the surface of the floor that looks and feels different.  So, if you have engineered hand scraped hardwood you can either float it over an underlay or glue it down to the subfloor.  It is also good to remember that engineered wood can be used with underfloor heating and in conservatories.  Alternatively, if you have solid hand scraped wooden flooring you must fix it down to the subfloor for stability.
