The Best Flooring for Children

When you are thinking about having a new floor you will want to consider your children.  Especially if they are babies or toddlers that are moving around frequently spilling drinks or dropping food.  Wooden floors are great as they can easily be cleaned and are hygienic.

Carpets may be the obvious choice, but they can be difficult to clean and can harbour dust, dirt and pet hair, which you may wat to avoid with a baby crawling around.   Here are our top 3 flooring choices for children:

Hardwood Flooring

Either solid wood or engineered wood flooring is a great choice.  Hardwood is natural, easy to clean, hygienic and will look amazing in your home.  Oak wooden floors are relatively hard wearing and food and drink spills can easily be wiped away.  If you are worried about your baby or toddler slipping on a wooden floor, you can always put a rug down, which will add a bit more warmth and comfort.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) can be a great choice if you have children.  They can mimic either wooden floors or ceramic tiles and are slightly warmer and softer underfoot than hardwood flooring.  Some types of LVT are waterproof, which helps greatly for food and drink spills!  LVT floors are easy to clean and again are hygienic as they don’t gather dust and dirt like carpets do.

Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring is another good option if you have children.  Strand woven bamboo flooring is over twice as hard as Oak, so can easily withstand the daily wear and tear of children running around.  There are many different colours and styles of bamboo flooring to choose from, including grey, white and different shades of brown.

Cleaning any of these three floors is simple and straight forward.  We would recommend using a Bona Spray Mop, as it does not include any harsh chemicals but still thoroughly cleans your floor.
