Hardwood flooring can be a fantastic choice for your kitchen. It can look elegant and chic, whilst giving your kitchen added character and charm. There are a few things that you will need to be mindful of when choosing and installing your floor.

Advice for having a hardwood floor in your kitchen:

• Choose engineered hardwood flooring (not solid wood). It has been designed to withstand changes in temperature and humidity, which are inevitable in a kitchen area. Engineered wooden floors have a top layer of real wood, so they look exactly the same once installed, you are just getting the added strength and stability from the base layers.

• If you choose to loose lay your hardwood floor (float it over an underlay, then you must allow it to move freely. You will need to ensure you have the correct expansion gaps around the perimeter of the room, and you should not fix a fitted kitchen to your floor as this can inhibit the floor’s movements.  Always make sure you read the installation instructions carefully, and please contact us if you need further advice.

• Remember to wipe away any spills or water accidents straight away. Although engineered hardwood flooring is durable, it will absorb any liquid left on the surface, and could become damaged as a result.
