Simple Steps to Cleaning your Wooden Floor

Cleaning your wooden floor is straight forward and simple.  Wooden floors are hard and flat, so there is nowhere for dust or dirt to hide.  This makes them very hygienic and easy to clean. You will, no doubt, want to keep your wooden floor looking fresh and tidy.  We would recommend that you adopt a simple cleaning routine.

Here are some simple steps to cleaning your wooden floor:

1. Have a regular routine. This definitely makes it easier to keep on top of and will only take a few minutes out of your day.

2. You should sweep away any dust or dirt as soon as you notice it. Once a day should be sufficient. Unless, of course, the wooden floor is in a dining room or kitchen, where food and crumbs get dropped throughout the day. It would then be better to quickly sweep that area as often as needed, possibly after each meal.

3. If you notice any liquid spills or accidents, wipe them away immediately with a soft cloth or towel. Try to avoid letting the water soak into the wood, as it can discolour or even distort the floor.

4. Clean your floor with an appropriate wooden floor cleaning solution. This doesn’t need to be done every day. We would recommend doing this on a weekly basis (more often if needed). It will clean away any marks from your floor and bring back its lustre.

What products should I use?

For sweeping your floor you should use a soft bristle brush to remove any dust or dirt.  You can use a vacuum cleaner, but please make sure it has the correct attachment for wooden floors. Otherwise, it can scratch or dent the wood. For cleaning your floor we would recommend using a pH neutral cleaning solution and microfibre mop.  Bona Spray Mop is perfect as it has the solution built into the handle and has a removable and washable cleaning pad.

Please don’t use a steam mop or any acidic or harsh chemicals – they can seriously damage your floor.
