Solid wood flooring is a fantastic option for any style or size of room. If you choose to have a solid hardwood floor you are instantly adding luxury and sophistication to your home.  There are a wide range of options to choose from, including standard planks, random plank lengths and parquet blocks.  By adding a colour stain to a solid Oak floor you can achieve a truly unique and charismatic addition to your home.

Have a look at our full range of solid wood flooring here.

What is solid wood flooring?

Solid wood flooring is exactly as it sounds; a solid piece of wood made into a plank of flooring. The wood is cut from the tree, then shaped and sanded into a plank (or parquet block).  There are two different finishes for solid wood flooring. A pre-finished wooden floor already has protective layers on the meaning that you can walk on it straight away.  An unfinished solid floor will need protecting with layers of oil to the surface once it has been installed.

What does it look like?

This depends on the style and colour of solid wood flooring you choose.  Here are a few different examples of what it could look like:

Where can I use it?

You are able use solid wood flooring in most rooms in your home, including bedrooms, living areas, hallways and dining rooms. Avoid using solid wood flooring in rooms with excess water (bathrooms, utility rooms, kitchens, etc.) or in conservatories, rooms with large amounts of glazing, or with underfloor heating.  This is because it cannot handle the constant changes in temperature and humidity.

How do I install solid wood?

Solid wood flooring usually has a tongue and groove fitting profile. You will need to fix the planks down securely to your subfloor.  For more detailed advice and information on installing your floor, please have a look at our Fitting Guide, and always follow the Installation Instructions that come with your new floor.

How should I clean it?

Simply sweep on a daily basis to remove dust and dirt from the surface.  Then clean on a weekly basis.  We would recommend using Bona Premium Spray Mop.
