Dark coloured engineered wood flooring can instantly add charisma and fascination to any space. A dark floor is perfect for more traditional style homes and larger areas. The benefits of the engineered structure allows you to use the floor in a much more versatile way, including with underfloor heating or in a conservatory.
How is dark coloured engineered wood flooring made?
There are a number of ways that dark coloured engineered wood flooring can be made. Firstly, the engineered flooring planks are made. They have a real solid top layer (wear layer), so you will be walking on real wood. Then underneath is a number of base layers made from plywood or other types of wood. These base layers give the flooring planks additional stability and strength. Some species of wood are naturally dark in colour (like Walnut or Blacknut), so these could be used as the top wear layer of your flooring.
Alternatively, if you want something a little bit different, then you could choose Oak as the wear layer, and then add a colour stain. You can either do this yourself, by purchasing an unfinished Oak engineered floor, and then choosing a dark colour stain to apply to the surface. Or you could opt for a pre-finished engineered floor with a dark colour stain already added.
Some examples are:
• Distressed Antique Oak
• Cappuccino Oak Parquet Block
• Chocolate Oak Chevron Flooring
If you choose an unfinished floor, you must seal the surface with an oil once the stain has been added. We would always recommend that you use a professional floor fitter for this.
Why should I choose dark coloured engineered wood flooring?
Here are the reasons why we think you should choose a dark-coloured engineered wood floor:
• If you have a large, airy space, it will add some character and depth.
• You can use engineered wood flooring with underfloor heating and in conservatories.
• Installation is easy as you have the option of floating it over an underlay.
• The floor will give you a rich and traditional feel of luxuriousness.
• There is a choice of either plank flooring or parquet blocks.
• Finally, it is investment. A hardwood floor can last a lifetime if you look after and maintain it properly.
