Yes, you can fit wood onto your staircase.  In order to do this, you will need the correct type and size of wooden flooring, and the correct flooring accessory; stair nosing. The stair nosing covers the edge of each step on your staircase, and seamlessly joins the wooden floor together.  You will be able to find a stair nosing that matches your colour and style of flooring.

What is a stair nosing?

It is a flooring profile that covers the edge of each step.

Tips for fitting wood onto your staircase:

We would always recommend using a professional and experienced floor fitter to install wooden flooring onto your staircase.

• Before you start cladding your staircase, you need to prepare the area.

• You should make sure that each step on your staircase is at a 90-degree angle. If your stairs are uneven, then this will need to be rectified before the installation work starts.

• The best place to start is at the bottom of the staircase and gradually work your way up.

• Next, you should carefully and accurately measure and cut the wooden stair nosing and wooden flooring planks to the correct size. These should exactly match to each step.

• You should always use a flexible flooring adhesive to bond the hardwood floor and stair nosing down onto your staircase. This will ensure that the wood does not become loose and dangerous with daily wear and tear. Do not attempt to float a wooden floor on your staircase.

• Finally, do not use the staircase until the adhesive is completely dry. Always read the adhesive instructions for the correct amounts and recommended drying times.
