Regular cleaning of your hardwood floor is essential to keeping it looking fresh and new.  Your hardwood floor needs to be kept clean to keep it looking great, but also most importantly to protect it from damage. If you allow a build up of dust or dirt on your floor, the surface can easily become scratched or scuffed.  It is really easy to clean your hardwood floor and there are some great, easy to use, products around.

What is the best way to clean my wooden floor?

Here is how we recommend to clean your hardwood floor;

• First of all, sweep your wooden floor with a soft brush. This will remove any dust, dirt or grit from the surface of the wood.

• You should sweep your floor every day. Keeping your floor clean is one of the best ways to avoid scratches and dents.

• Once you floor has been swept, you should clean any marks or stains from the surface.

• The best way to clean your floor is by using a wooden floor cleaning spray and microfibre mop. This will remove any marks from your floor but is gentle enough not to damage the surface.

• Finally, we would recommend that you quickly remove and water spills, grit or stones from your wooden floor as soon as you see them.

Is there anything I should not use to clean my wooden floor?

Although wooden floors are relatively hard wearing, you do have to be careful which products you use to clean them. Some products can damage the surface of the wood and should be avoided:

• Never use furniture polish – this can make your floor slippery and can be hard to remove.

• Do not use a wet mop – the excess moisture could soak into your floor and cause damage. You can use a well wrung out mop.

• Only use a vacuum cleaner if it has the correct attachments suitable for a wooden floor. If you do not use the correct attachment, it could create scratches.

• Never use a steam mop. The heat and moisture can penetrate your wooden floor and cause irreparable damage.

• Avoid using any acidic or abrasive products.
