  • What is a Floating Floor?

    A floating floor refers to the installation method and not a particular type of flooring. A floating floor is sometimes also referred to as being ‘loose laid’. It basically means that the flooring planks are attached to each other, but not glued, nailed or screwed to the existing subfloor in the property; it floats above the subfloor or underlay. The planks of flooring can be either glued together or clicked together (depending upon the type of flooring being used) to create a secure and tight fit so the weight of the floor will hold it in place – almost like a jigsaw puzzle. It is a popular method of installation associated with underfloor heating as it allows the floor to move in response to the changes in temperature. Continue reading
