How to measure a square or rectangular shaped room

Simple room measurement

1. Sketch out a rough shape of your room

2. Measure the length of the room (4 metres) and write it on your drawing

3. Measure the width of the room (3 metres) and write it on your drawing

4. Use the calculator to multiply the length by the width (4m x 3m = 12m²).

5. This shows that the area of your room is 12 square metres.

6. Add on 5% for wastage (12m² x 1.05 = 12.6m²)

7. You will need to order at least 12.6m² of bamboo flooring.

How to measure a more complex shaped room

Complex room measurement

1. Sketch out a rough shape of your room

2. Spilt the room into manageable sections

3. Start with one section and measure the length (4 metres) and write it on your drawing.

4. Now measure the width of the same section (1.5 metres) and write it on your drawing.

5. Calculate the area of this section (4m x 1.5m = 6m) and write this on your drawing.

6. Now look at the next section. Measure the length (2 metres) and write it on your drawing.

7. Next, measure the width of the same section (1.5 metres) and write it on your drawing.

8. Calculate the area of this section (2m x 1.5m = 3m²) and write this on your drawing.

9. Add both sections together (6m² + 3m² = 9m²). This is the total area of your room.

10. Now, don’t forget to add on 5% for wastage (9m² x 1.05 = 9.45m²)

11. You will need to order at least 9.45m² of bamboo flooring.
