Flooring for Bathrooms

When you are choosing flooring for a bathroom your main priority should be that is waterproof.  Bathrooms are often the wettest room in your home.  Even with the most careful family members it is inevitable that water will get splashed outside the bath, shower and sink.  You will need a floor that is resilient, waterproof and long lasting.

What are the best flooring options for bathrooms?

The three best flooring options for a bathroom are Ceramic Tiles, Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Waterproof Laminate flooring.

Ceramic tiles are very popular in a bathroom.  They are the traditional type of flooring used in a bathroom and offer a stylish and waterproof option.  One downside of using ceramic tiles in your bathroom is that they can be very cold underfoot, especially in the colder months.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a great alternative to ceramic tiles.  They look just like tiles or wood flooring but have the benefit of being waterproof and warmer underfoot.  LVT can also be used with underfloor heating, giving you added comfort in the winter months.

Waterproof Laminate Flooring is another good flooring choice for bathrooms.  Make sure that you get the waterproof range of laminate as it deals with water and humidity much better.  There are many styles and patterns to choose from, mostly at a reasonable price.

Which floors should I avoid using?

Firstly, we would avoid using a carpet in a bathroom.  If a carpet gets wet or damp, it is extremely hard to dry, and you can be left with a nasty stale smell.  The humidity and dampness in bathroom can also leave a carpet with mould and mildew.

We would also avoid using hardwood flooring.  The wood can easily warp and discolour if it has continuous water left on the surface.  Bamboo floors are slightly more resilient but still not ideal for a bathroom.
