2.5L will cover approximately 37m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application.
Preparation
Treatex Exterior Oils work best on unfinished timbers. Exotic and pressure-treated timbers should be allowed to weather for approximately 3 months before finishing. Previous finishes which stop Exterior Oils from penetrating into the timbers (e.g. paints and other ‘closed’ finishes) must be fully removed prior to application. Previous porous finishes should be lightly sanded before over-coating. When over-coating a previously finished surface, a trial application is essential. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminants e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. Timbers susceptible to mould and fungi should be treated first with a suitable preservative. We advise that when using Exterior Oils, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. The timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be greater than 8oC/<60% humidity during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.
Application
Stir tins thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush, roller or spray to evenly apply Treatex Exterior Oils in the same direction as the wood grain, allowing approximately 60-70ml per m2. Pay particular attention to the end grain, which you should apply liberally. After approximately 12 hours the first coat can be overcoated. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Exterior Oils, again allowing roughly 60-70ml per m2. After the second coat leave for approximately 12 hours to dry. A third coat can be applied if necessary. Finishing with Exterior Oils Clear will add further protection against wear and abrasion. For decking, we recommend applying Treatex Anti-slip Decking Oil.
