Float Over Underlay
Floating a floor over an underlay means that the planks of flooring are attached together by the click fitting system, but they are not fixed directly down to the subfloor; instead they float over a layer of underlay. There are various types of underlay including thermal barriers and sound reducing underlays. This method of installation is also compatible with underfloor heating. Only engineered hardwood can be floated over an underlay.

Tongue & Groove
Tongue and groove flooring is the traditional method of installing wooden floors. Each plank of flooring has one long side and one short side with a protruding tongue and one long side and one short side with a rebated groove. The tongues and grooves fit together creating a snug and secure fit.
Click Fit
A click fitting system means that the boards can simply be clicked together to provide straight forward installation. The planks of flooring have interlocking joints which have been machined onto the edge. These joints click and lock together to provide a tight and secure fit without the need for nails or glue.
Glue Down
By gluing your hardwood floor directly down to the subfloor you will create a full surface bond between the existing floor and your new hardwood floor. You will need to use a flexible flooring adhesive to allow for natural movements with changes in temperature and humidity. Either solid wood flooring or engineered wood flooring can be glued to the subfloor.
Residential Use

Underfloor Heating Use
Underfloor heating is becoming more and more popular and can offer a fantastic alternative to the traditional methods of heating a room. We have a range of both solid and engineered floors that have been fully tested and are approved to be used with underfloor heating. This means that the floor is stable enough to be able to react to the changes in temperature without becoming damaged (as long as you stick to the guidelines of the underfloor heating system that you have). The heat will be effectively transferred through your flooring, right to the surface, so that you can feel the pleasure and warmth as you walk on your floor.

The nail goes into the tongue of the plank of flooring so will be completely hidden from view. Either solid wood flooring or engineered wood flooring with a tongue and groove profile can be secret nailed to the subfloor.

Built-in Underlay
Underlay built into the board for an easier install. Revolutionary new Unizip click system means that laying a Elka herringbone floor only requires one type of plank. For a traditional herringbone floor you’d normally need two types that click together on different sides. This unique design results in less waste and less complication - so you can say hello to your beautiful new herringbone floor in no time!
Unizip Fit
The Unizip technology solves this inconvenience. Unilin invented a locking profile that makes it possible to lay a herringbone floor with only one type of panel. The Unizip profile positions the tongue and groove around the panel in such a way that the short side of the panel can be locked into the long side of the adjacent panel, without having to compromise on locking strength. Unizip is available for all main types of flooring.
