All colour shades can be mixed with each other to create any number of alternative colours.
Please Note: Using this product on rough sawn or featherboard wood will significantly reduce its coverage.
Natural Oil Woodstain (701) Clear offers no UV protection and is therefore not recommended for wooden surfaces exposed to strong sunlight.
Preparation
Ensure surfaces to be treated with Osmo Woodstain are clean, dry and frost-free prior to application (moisture content max. 20°C).
- Existing oil finished should be lightly sanded and cleaned before application
- Existing coatings such as paint and varnish must be fully removed by sanding or stripping back to bare wood
- Remove sanding dust thoroughly from the surface with a brush or vacuum cleaner before application
- Use white spirit to degrease and remove surface contaminates if required
- Any traces of green growth or mould should be treated and removed with Osmo Gard Clean
- Fill any holes or gaps with a suitable wood filler
- Revive and greyed or sun-damaged wood with Osmo Wood Reviver Gel
- Any end grain can be sealed with Osmo End Grain Sealing Wax
- If additional protection against blue stain, rot and insects is desired, pre-treat the wood, if possible on all sides with Osmo WR Base Coat
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application.
- Apply Osmo wood stain thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller and spread well
- Work the oil into the surface grain of the wood
- If possible, apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation to offer the best all-round protection.
- Wipe off any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth
- Allow the first coat to dry for 4-6 hours
- Apply a second coat using the same method as the first
Finishing
The dried surface is initially satin-gloss at first and is satin afterwards. The transparent colour tone of the finish will be influenced by the wood's natural colour, causing the results to deviate from the colour shown on the colour chart. Lightly pigmented (coloured) transparent finishes have little protection against UV influences and are therefore not recommended for surfaces prone to strong sunlight.
- To increase the durability of the finish apply a top coat of Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra(420)
- For the white Osmo Natural Woodstain finish (product code 900), use Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra (429) as a top coat as this will retain the white finish. Using the standard clear UV protection oil (420) on top of the while 900 may result in a creamy or 'off-white' finish.
