22mm Engineered Wood Flooring

One of the thickest planks of flooring available, 22mm engineered hardwood is constructed from a top layer of hardwood and base layers of other types of wood.  The top layer of hardwood is sometimes known as the wear layer, and is usually between 5mm and 6mm in depth.  This is the only part of the flooring that you will see once it has been installed so it is important to choose the correct species of wood and surface finish.

The planks of flooring are constructed in such a way that each layer of wood runs perpendicular to the next.  They are bonded together with glue (under extreme pressure), and this method of construction means that the planks of flooring have great strength and dimensional stability.  The total thickness of the plank of flooring will be 22mm, so if it has a wear layer of 6mm, the remaining 16mm will be made up from the alternative wooden base layers.

Why should I choose 22 thick engineered flooring?

22mm engineered hardwood is a great choice if you are installing your wooden floor over joists. It is thick enough and strong enough to deal with the extra pressure and weight that is associated with wooden floors over joists.

It is a popular type of flooring and can be found in a number of different species of wood,  different widths and lengths and with different types of surface texture and finish.  It is also available in an unfinished format so that you have the luxury of being able to add colour stains and finish of your choice to create a truly unique floor.

The flooring itself has a tongue and groove fitting profile and can either be fixed directly to the subfloor, or floated over an underlay, depending on your preference. Have a look at our Installation and Fitting Guide to find out more.

22mm engineered hardwood flooring is one of the thickest types of engineered flooring that you can get.  It still has all of the advantages of engineered flooring (for example, durability, dimensional stability and variety), whilst having a top layer of solid hardwood which provides the luxury and beauty of a natural product.  To find out more about engineered wood flooring, why not have a look at our Guide to Engineered Wood Flooring.

How do I maintain 22mm engineered hardwood flooring?

Maintain the beauty and shine of your 22mm engineered wooden floor is simple.  Adopt a regular cleaning routine of sweeping with a soft brush followed by cleaning with a wooden floor cleaning spray and mop.  Have a look at our range of cleaning products which have all been designed specifically for hardwood floors.
