3 Ply Engineered Wood Flooring

3-ply engineered wood flooring is made up from your chosen species of wood as a top layer (wear layer), a middle layer which is a softwood core (usually Eucalyptus or Poplar) and a bottom layer (base) of hard durable plywood.  These three layers all run perpendicular to the next and are bonded together with adhesive under high pressure, to create a strong, stable and secure plank of engineered wood flooring.

Once 3-ply engineered hardwood flooring has been installed, the only part that you will see is the wear layer; the top layer of real wood which is your choice of species of wood and surface finish.  The two base layers are there purely for stability and so that you can use your flooring in much more versatile and adaptable ways.  It is almost impossible to tell the difference between engineered hardwood and solid hardwood floors once they have been installed.

Why should I choose 3-Ply Engineered Wood Flooring?

3-ply engineered hardwood is a fantastic choice of wooden flooring.  If you choose 3-ply engineered wood flooring you will have the natural beauty of a solid wood flooring top layer with the additional benefits of engineered wood flooring.  All types of engineered hardwood are dimensionally stable and can be used in much more versatile ways.  They can be used with underfloor heating, in rooms with fluctuating temperature and humidity (such as conservatories or rooms with excessive glazing), and can be floated over an underlay or fixed into position.  To find out more benefits of engineered hardwood, read our article: Advantages of Engineered Wood Flooring.

We have a huge range of 3-ply engineered wood flooring with a variety of different species of wood, different surface finishes, and a range plank sizes. Hopefully you will find something to suit your requirements.

How do I install 3-Ply Engineered Wood Flooring?

3-ply flooring can be found with either a traditional tongue and groove fitting profile or a quick and easy click fitting system.  Both types can be either be fixed directly down to the subfloor or floated over an underlay.

The decision of how to install your 3-ply engineered hardwood flooring mainly depends upon the amount of footfall the room is likely to get and your personal preference.  If you have a busy room or a commercial building then we would recommended that you fix the flooring directly down to the subfloor.

Are there any alternatives available?

The main alternative to 3-ply engineered wood flooring is multi-ply engineered wood flooring which has more base layers of plywood giving additional strength and thickness.  Alternatively we also have an extensive range of solid wood flooring and laminate flooring.
