Hardwood flooring is fairly easy to maintain, but if it is not looked after properly, then scratches and dents can appear on the surface. The main cause of scratches or dents to hardwood floor is dirt. If dirt, grit or stones get onto your flooring and are walked upon then they can cause scratches.
How to prevent scratches and dents from occurring
The best way to prevent scratches is to sweep your hardwood floor on a daily basis with a soft bristle brush, and clean on a weekly basis with a PH neutral wood floor cleaning spray and microfibre mop.
Other tips to prevent scratches and dents are:
• Place doormats at entrance doors
• Remove footwear
• Use anti-scratch felt pads on the bottom of furniture
• Do not drag heavy or sharp objects across your floor.

How to resolve the problem once it has happened
If your hardwood flooring has been scratched or dented then it can be sanded down and re-finished. This, however, is a major job and requires the whole flooring to be done, and not just one small area. Alternatively, coloured beeswax can be used to mask over small scratches.
