Hardwood flooring is available in a wide variety of plank widths, so it is a good idea to think about which size flooring plank will complement the shape, style and size of your room. Solid hardwood flooring can usually be found in widths ranging from 60mm to 300mm. Engineered hardwood flooring can be found with slightly wider planks (between 100mm and 400mm) as it is a more dimensionally stable product.

This extensive range of plank sizes means that it should not be difficult to find something that suits your needs. Although wide planks of hardwood flooring are becoming very popular and can help to complement a large room or space, they are more expensive and can be less stable than narrower planks of flooring.

There are no fixed guidelines about whether narrow or wide planks are better for certain sized rooms, it depends upon personal preference. Generally speaking, a small room will look and feel bigger if narrow planks of hardwood flooring are used, but broader boards can bring a modern and stylish touch to any sized room. The same rule applies to a large room; a wider plank can complement the room with a contemporary touch, however narrow boards can offer a more traditional and formal appearance.
