Yes the colour of your Oak flooring can be changed by adding a colour stain, but it is a lengthy and technical process so to achieve the best results it should be left to a professional hardwood flooring expert. Here is a quick guide to the steps involved:

1. Remove all furniture and furnishings from the room. Even remove beading or skirting boards if possible so that you can reach underneath them.  The clean the room thoroughly.

2. Use a floor sander to sand the floor evenly to remove the existing finish, then clean the room again to remove any dust and debris created by the sander.

3. Ventilate the room as much as possible.

4. Apply your chosen colour stain with a cloth or brush, ensuring you get an even coverage. Wait for it to dry and apply a second coat if needed.

5. Once the stain has dried completely it should be sealed with a wooden floor oil. Apply this along the grain, evenly and smoothly. Allow to dry completely before applying a second coat if needed.

This is only a very quick guide to explain what steps are needed to change the colour of your Oak flooring. We would always advise that you use a professionally trained floor expert and use stains and oils of the same brand, that are specifically designed for hardwood floors.  Also, remember to read and follow all of the instructions carefully.
