What is a pre-finished hardwood floor?

A pre-finished hardwood floor has already undergone a finishing procedure during the manufacturing of the planks of flooring. This means that it has already had the protective layers of oils or lacquers added so that it is ready to be walked on as soon as it has been installed. All types of hardwood flooring need to be ‘finished’ to prevent damage from daily wear and tear, and to highlight the natural beauty and colour of the wood.

Why choose a pre-finished hardwood floor?

Pre-finished hardwood floors are a great choice as they have already been stained and sealed, meaning that the installation process is more straight forward and takes less time as the floor is ready to be walked on almost immediately after installation. Having a pre-finished hardwood floor also means that there will be no dust from sanding, and no chemical fumes from oils, lacquers or stains being applied. Even though the floor has been pre-finished there are still a wide variety of wood species, plank sizes, colours and finishes to choose from.

The main advantages of choosing a pre-finished floor are:

• Easier and quicker to install than an unfinished floor

• It can be walked on almost immediately after installation

• A wide range of wood species, stains, finishes and plank sizes are available to choose from

• There are no toxic or harsh fumes from applying oils or lacquers

• There will be no dust as the floor does not need to be sanded
